Leon County Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association

Scholarships

The V. L. Elkins Scholarship Program was established to provide educational opportunities to high school Seniors in Leon county, who have been accepted and will be attending Florida A&M University. In 2003 the scholarship committee deemed it necessary to include the community college students as part of the Program.

The scholarship program was named after Mr. Virgil L. Elkins who had given many years of dedicated service to the chapter, and was a former chapter president. Mr. Elkins was a Farmers Home Extension Officer for many years and was a servant to his church and the community.

This program has grown tremendously over the years due to the outstanding leadership of the chairpersons, and committee members who have worked hard to provide many golden opportunities for young minds to grow and develop at Florida’s Opportunity University…FAMU!

To be considered for the scholarship, please view the Scholarship Criteria and submit the following:

  1. A completed application form; Scholarship Application
  2. Submit two letters of recommendation from non-relatives, who are members of your community and who can attest to your character, school and/or community involvement and potential for future success; and
  3. Submit a copy the applicant’s official transcript (sealed).
