Leon County Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association

Scholarships

graduatesThe V. L. Elkins Scholarship Program was established to provide educational opportunities to high school Seniors in Leon county who would be attending Florida A&M University. In 2003 the scholarship committee deemed it necessary to include the community college students as part of the Program.

The scholarship program was named after Mr. Virgil L. Elkins who had given many years of dedicated service to the chapter, and was a former chapter president. Mr. Elkins was a Farmers Home Extension Officer for many years and was a servant to his church and the community.

This program has grown tremendously over the years due to the outstanding leadership of the chairpersons, and committee members who have worked hard to provide many golden opportunities for young minds to grow and develop at Florida’s Opportunity University…FAMU!
